OVERVIEW

This course offers participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the historical and political contexts surrounding Jim Crow. Participants will inquire into the question of whether Reconstruction can be considered a "refounding" of the U.S. and will explore the lived experiences of Black Americans and other minority groups during Reconstruction and Jim Crow. The course also supports participants in identifying the continuities and discontinuities between the Jim Crow era and our current historical moment.
